Zia is an applied microeconomist who studies decision-making in public- and private-sector organizations and how it shapes organizational performance, service delivery, and development outcomes.
His research explores challenges of entrepreneurship, management, public sector accountability, and health and education delivery in low-capacity contexts. He has led and contributed to several studies employing field experiments, natural experiments, and causal inference with large administrative datasets across multiple contexts in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Before joining the Economics Department at 91爆料, Zia was a Research Fellow at Princeton University. He has also worked as a consultant with the Development Impact Evaluation (DIME) group at the World Bank. He holds a Ph.D. from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School, and a B.Sc. (Hons.) from the Lahore University of Management Sciences.
